Loss of life exceeds 1,000… UN disaster warning for Gaza

While the loss of life in Gaza reached 1,055 and the number of injuries reached 5,184, the United Nations (UN) warned that “the Gaza Strip will face a disaster if it does not open up to humanitarian aid” after Israel will order a total blockade.

Adnan Abu Hasna, spokesman for the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), noted that Israel continues to close all border gates with the Gaza Strip, making the delivery of humanitarian aid impossible. “The Gaza Strip will witness an unprecedented humanitarian disaster if safe corridors are not opened for the delivery of humanitarian aid, including water, medical supplies and food,” Abu Hasna said.

Underlining that “gasoline will run out in Gaza in the next few hours and hospitals will be out of service,” Abu Hasna stated that if the situation continues like this, within two weeks there will be no food in the Gaza Strip.

In its statement yesterday, UNRWA announced that more than 175,000 people in Gaza have taken refuge in 88 schools and that the numbers have increased due to continued Israeli airstrikes. On the other hand, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that Israeli airstrikes displaced more than 260,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. (AGENCIES)
