The former deputy ran 14,400 kilometers

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albenese went to Uluru Rock to witness the 61-year-old runner complete his 7-month race.

Albenese said he had “admiration and respect” for Farmer’s dedication, adding: “No one has done more than this man, and I am delighted to welcome him to Uluru.”

Farmer also told reporters: “I’m very happy. “I’m very, very happy to be in this moment where we’re starting to recognize indigenous communities around the world and the importance of that culture,” he said.

Farmer, who began his race on April 17 in Hobart, Tasmania and completed his 14,400 kilometer race, traveled to all Australian states as well as both mainland regions.

NATIVE VOICE REFERENDUM IN THE ASSEMBLY

The referendum, which will be held on October 14, is seen as a way for Australia’s indigenous people to make direct recommendations to all levels of government on laws and policies that affect their lives.

The referendum will ask the public whether they approve of the constitutional amendment establishing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

If the bill is passed, an institution called “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice” will be established. This body may have representatives in parliament and government on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. (AA)
