In Colombia, the government announced that it suspended all operations against former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), with whom it reached a ceasefire agreement.

With the decree signed by President Gustavo Petro, military operations against the Central General Staff (EMC), also known as the umbrella organization of the FARC, were stopped. It was stated that within the scope of the decree a team will be formed that will represent the Ministry of Defense, the army, the police and the government, and it was stated that “the ceasefire will officially begin from October 16 and all operations will be suspended. operations”. during the period decided by the government.”

It was shared that one member from each of the United Nations Verification Mission, one from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the World Council of Churches will be included in the monitoring commission to monitor the ceasefire process between the parts.

AN AGREEMENT WAS MADE FOR A CESSATION CESSATION

The ceasefire agreement between the parties was signed on October 9 in the town of Tibú, in the administrative region of Norte de Santander, with the participation of numerous representatives of non-governmental organizations.

The High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda, stated in his statement that the ceasefire between the parties will begin on October 16 and that it was agreed to extend this agreement until the end of the year.

The peace agreement, which ended more than 50 years of conflict with the FARC, was signed by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and former FARC leader Rodrigo Londoño on November 24, 2016 at the capital’s historic Teatro Colón. , Bogota.

Despite the peace agreement between the State and the FARC, some former commanders and members of the FARC who are in conflict with the organization continue their armed actions. (AA)
