The seat of the speaker of the United States House of Representatives is in danger
Republican Matt Gaetz, a member of the US House of Representatives, filed a motion to impeach House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Gaetz demanded that McCarthy be removed from his seat with a motion he presented to the House of Representatives in the afternoon local time. Gaetz, who claimed in his morning speech in Parliament that McCarthy had reached a secret deal with US President Joe Biden and the Democrats on aid to Ukraine, told reporters after the motion: “If the Democrats want hire Kevin McCarthy, they can.” saying.
The proposal is expected to be voted on in the House of Representatives within 48 hours. An absolute majority (218) in parliament is required for House Speaker McCarthy to be removed from office.
Whether or not the proposal is approved will depend on the support of Democrats and far-right members of McCarthy’s own party. If Gaetz’s motion is accepted, McCarthy will be removed from his position as speaker of the House of Representatives, but will remain a representative.
IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CHOOSE
Gaetz, who belongs to the far-right group within the Republican Party, opposed McCarthy becoming speaker of the House of Representatives in January.
McCarthy, who had to make some concessions to convince Gaetz and his group, was only able to be elected president after 15 votes. Among the concessions McCarthy made to Republicans who did not support him becoming president was that a representative’s motion was enough for a vote to unseat him.
Tension between Gaetz and McCarthy has increased recently. Gaetz had suggested that McCarthy was not a good leader, arguing that he made “concessions” to Democrats.
McCarthy, on the other hand, pointed out that Gaetz was busy giving interviews to television stations for his personal benefit instead of doing something for the country. (AA)
