They entered October with record heat
The Spanish Meteorological Institute (AEMET) reported that on the first day of October, record temperatures were detected throughout the country.
After noting that the highest air temperature recorded so far in the month of October was 37.5 degrees in the Marbella district of the city of Malaga on October 22, 2014, the AEMET announced that this record was broken in the city of Badajoz, in the southwest of the country, where thermometers today showed 38 degrees.
Air temperatures, which were 5 to 10 degrees above normal, reached 37.4 in the Carmona district of Seville, one of the cities in the Andalusia region, and 37.2 in the Andújar de Jaén.
“THERE IS A VERY UNUSUAL TEMPERATURE”
Likewise, in the northern regions of the country the air temperature was well above normal, exceeding 30 degrees in many places. October temperature records were broken in a total of 92 locations across the country.
AEMET spokesperson Rubén del Campo stated: “The temperature is very unusual for this time of year. “We are likely to see many temperature records broken during October, when exceptionally high temperatures could be detected.” he said.
The AEMET and some experts had predicted that Spain would experience the warmest autumn season since 1950. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
