The pro-Russian party achieves victory in Slovakia
In the parliamentary elections held yesterday in Slovakia, according to unofficial results, the Social Democratic Party (SMER) of former Prime Minister Robert Fico won first place with 22.94 percent of the votes. Thus, Fico’s party, which adopted an anti-Ukrainian stance, declared victory.
During the election campaign, Fico pursued anti-Ukrainian propaganda, paving the way for the formation of a coalition government. Fico made statements not to support Ukraine against Russia and said that he was against the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Slovak state television RTVS reported that according to unofficial election results, 99.9 percent of the votes were counted and SMER won the race with 22.94 percent of the votes.
The left-liberal Progressive Party of Slovakia (PS) came in second with 17.96 percent of the vote, and another liberal party, the Party of the Voice (HLAS), came in third with 14.7 percent. percent of the votes.
LOST CONSERVATIVE BLOCK
The conservative Party of the Common People and Independent People (OLANO), which finished first in the 2020 general election with 25 percent of the vote, was the loser of this election.
OLANO, which entered the elections forming a triple alliance with the Party For the People (Za Ludi) and the Christian Union (KU), suffered a serious defeat, obtaining 8.89 percent of the votes.
In the country, where there are approximately 4.4 million voters, the voter participation rate was 68.51 percent. In the country where the electoral threshold is 7 percent for alliances and 5 percent for independent parties, one alliance and six parties managed to enter parliament.
Thus, out of the top four parties, the Christian Democratic Movement Party (KDH) received 6.82 percent of the votes, the Freedom and Solidarity Party (SAS) received 6.32 percent and the nationalist Slovak National Party (SNS) received 5.62 percent.
According to these results, the SMER party of former Prime Minister Fico achieved 42 deputies, PS 32, HLAS 27, Alianza OLANO 16, KDH 12, SAS 11 and the nationalist SNS 10 deputies in the parliament composed of 150 seats.
