United States statement to Azerbaijan
US Secretary of State Blinken answered questions about the agenda. Blinken said: “We see the United States closely following the talks in Karabakh. I believe he also discussed the issue with his Turkish counterpart. In your telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister (Nikol) Pashinyan, you stated that the United States fully supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Armenia. Likewise, do you recognize and support Azerbaijan’s right to restore its territorial integrity, including Karabakh? He answered the question:
Noting that he had the opportunity to meet with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan this week, Blinken said they conveyed their concerns about developments in the region this week. Blinken said the United States opposes the use of force and that it represents an obstacle to peace efforts.
Stating that a just and lasting peace would greatly benefit both countries, Blinken assessed that such peace would be “a strong change for the better in the course of history after three years of conflict.”
CALL FOR BLINKEN DIPLOMACY
Blinken explained that they are in close contact with the parties and the European Union (EU) regarding the issue. Drawing attention to meetings between representatives of Azerbaijan and Karabakh Armenians in the past 24 hours, Blinken stressed the importance of negotiations and diplomacy.
