Biden: Abrams tanks in Ukraine next week

US President Joe Biden said: “The first US Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine next week.” US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his wife Olena Zelenska at the White House. The leaders appeared before the cameras after their bilateral and interdelegation meetings.

CONTINUE HUMANITARIAN AID

Praising the bravery shown by the Ukrainian people, Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin was wrong in his view that he could destroy Ukraine and NATO. Biden emphasized that the United States, together with allies and partners, will continue to provide humanitarian aid and military support to Ukraine to regain its territory.

RUSSIA BUYS ARMS FROM IRAN AND NORTH KOREA

Reiterating the message that they support a just and lasting peace that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Biden noted that Russia is obstructing peace and could end the war today if it wanted to. Instead, Biden argued that Russia was seeking to buy more weapons from Iran and North Korea.

NEW AID OF 325 MILLION DOLLARS

Announcing new $325 million US military aid to Ukraine, Biden reported that the package included more ammunition and equipment. “The first American Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine next week,” Biden said.

WE FOCUS ON AIR DEFENSE

Biden said they are focusing on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and will provide additional equipment in this context. Explaining that they will provide reforms and financial support within the framework of the future of Ukraine, Biden emphasized that they will continue to support this country.

GRAIN EXPORTS WERE DISCUSSED

Zelenskiy also thanked the United States for its help and said they had a productive meeting. Stating that they agreed on certain measures on issues such as improving Ukraine’s defense capabilities, strengthening air defense capabilities in the winter period and grain exports, Zelenskiy noted that they will continue working on the peace formula.

HE FIRST MET WITH THE PENTAGON

Before this meeting, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met. Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder reported on the bilateral meeting at the daily press briefing. “He had a great meeting,” Ryder said. Ryder stated that during the meeting current information on security assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine was discussed and that Ukraine’s long-term needs were also assessed. Ryder said Secretary Austin gave the Ukrainian leader a personal commitment to continue working with allies and partners to ensure they have what they need.
