Drug crisis in nursing home: one baby died, 3 babies are in hospital
One-year-old baby Nicholas Feliz Dominici died after being exposed to fentanyl in a nursing home in New York, United States. Three children who were exposed to the same substance were hospitalized.
As part of the investigation, Grei Méndez, who runs the nursing home, and Carlisto Acevedo Brito, who rented a room in the nursing home, were arrested. Although those arrested were accused of “homicide,” Méndez was released on bail. Brito has not yet been brought to trial.
Bronx Deputy District Attorney Karl Miller stated that 1 kilogram of fentanyl was seized on a wall in the hallway where Brito’s room was located.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 150 people die every day in the United States from synthetic drugs such as fentanyl, which is primarily used in pill form. Fentanyl, used as a synthetic painkiller, is claimed to be 100 times more potent than morphine and can be fatal if 2 milligrams are taken.
