Terrifying image in Libya: hundreds of bodies were found on the beach

During the Libya flood disaster, in which more than 11,000 people lost their lives and more than 10,000 went missing, Maltese rescue teams found hundreds of new bodies on the coast of the city of Derna.

The statement from the Malta Civil Protection Department states that the bodies of around 400 people were found on Derne beach yesterday. “It is very difficult to estimate the real figure,” said Natalino Bezzina, head of the Malta team.

It was recorded that the dead bodies, including children, were dragged to a seaside cave.

Many people in Derne, which was hardest hit by the disaster, are believed to have been swept into the sea by floodwaters after the dams overflowed. As search efforts at sea continue, the loss of life is increasing rapidly.

THE DEAD ARE BURIED IN COMMON GROUNDS

Search and rescue efforts, which began after the Sept. 10 flood, continue on the sixth day.

Bodies recovered from the sea or debris areas by search and rescue teams are buried in mass graves created in rural areas of the city. Here funeral prayers are first performed for bodies brought to the cemetery in body bags.

Those who lost their lives in the disaster are placed side by side in large graves dug by bulldozers and sent on their final journey. (AGENCIES)
