Mahsa Amini tension in Iran: ‘His father was arrested’
Members of anti-regime groups were reported to have been detained as security forces in Iran tightened their crackdown on protests on the first anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death.
According to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, Kurdistan province deputy governor Mehdi Ramazani said security and intelligence forces carried out an operation against groups “planning to create insecurity” in the region in the cities of Merivan and Bane. The Iranian official said the detained people were connected to anti-regime terrorist groups, but did not give information about which organization, saying: “These terrorist organizations were planning to create insecurity at the state level. “By capturing their leaders and elements affiliated with them, we neutralized their plans before they could act,” he said.
On the other hand, opposition news sources reported that on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death, her father Emced Amini was detained as he left his home in the city of Sakkiz in Kurdistan Province. The official Iranian agency IRNA denied the claim in its news on the subject.
On the eve of the first anniversary of the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died after being detained for not wearing the headscarf correctly, security forces are intensifying their measures amid the possibility of a resurgence of protests in the country. Images were shared on social media showing that the roads leading to the Aychi cemetery, where Mahsa Amini’s grave is located, were closed. (AA)
