Swedish Press Claim: Intelligence Information Provided to Turkey Came into the Hands of Criminals
Swedish media claim that it will further escalate the current conflict between Sweden and Turkey, which wants to become a member of NATO after the war between Russia and Ukraine…
Aftonbladet, one of Sweden’s most read newspapers, claimed some time ago that top secret intelligence data and information transferred by Sweden to Turkish officials had fallen into the hands of criminals in Sweden.
WAS IT LEAKED BY A TURKISH OFFICIAL?
The newspaper announced that information about the Rawa Majid mafia, known as the Kurdish Fox, whose extradition from Turkey to Sweden has reached criminals in Sweden. Information sent to Turkish authorities to help arrest Majid was found on the mobile phone of a member of the criminal network.
Türkiye responded negatively to Sweden’s extradition request.
The Swedish police interpreted this leak as an abuse of trust and the rules regarding the exchange of information between countries. A Swedish official speaking about the news signed by Jonathan Jeppson said: “It was probably leaked by an unknown official in Turkey.”
“THEY CAN UNDERSTAND HOW THE POLICE WORKS”
While it was stated that the information was determined to have reached the criminal organization in 2022, it was also emphasized that this intelligence was delivered from Sweden to Turkey at the highest level. It was also stated that the documents were prepared within the framework of “Operation Snake.” Speaking to the newspaper, a Swedish police official said: “This is a big scandal.”
Document leaks became a hot topic in Sweden.
While it was claimed that the documents contained information that would facilitate Turkey’s arrest of Majid, it was also noted that there was detailed information about the criminal network. It was also claimed that the documents were found on the mobile phone of a criminal captured in Sweden.
“It’s not good that this kind of information reaches them,” a source told Aftonbladet. As a result, criminals discover what the police know about them. “Then they understand how the police work against them,” she said.
WAS CAUGHT LAST YEAR
Majid was captured in Marmaris in April last year. Turkey received a negative response from Sweden, which requested the extradition of Majid, wanted by Interpol with a red notice.
Majid became a Turkish citizen shortly after this incident and was released after becoming a Turkish citizen.
