Statement following the US sanctions decision against Turkey: we are not worried

A new statement came from the United States after sanctions that strained ties between Ankara and Washington…

A new statement came from Washington yesterday, following the US Treasury Department’s decision to impose sanctions on five companies in Turkey and a Turkish citizen on the grounds that they helped break sanctions imposed on Russia.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters they hoped the sanctions decision would not affect some processes. Miller said the sanctions imposed on Turkish companies and Turkish citizens will not affect Sweden’s NATO membership process.

“WE BELIEVE IN ERDOĞAN’S GUARANTEES”

“We do not see them linked and we do not believe that these sanctions will have an impact on Sweden’s NATO membership process,” Miller said. Miller said: “We are in communication with them and state that Sweden’s membership in NATO is very important and we believe it should happen as soon as possible. “We believe in the assurances given by President Erdoğan,” he said.
Tension between the United States and Turkey was tense due to Sweden and Finland’s membership in NATO. While Finland’s NATO membership was approved in April, Sweden is still awaiting approval from Turkey and Hungary. The United States has stated in the past that it has taken necessary steps to address Turkey’s concerns within the scope of Sweden’s membership process and stated that Sweden’s membership should be approved.

WHAT DOES THE SANCTION COVER?

Speaking to Reuters yesterday, a senior US Treasury Department official announced that sanctions would be imposed on five Turkish companies and one Turkish citizen.

The official, who spoke to Reuters and did not reveal his name, said: “Over the past 18 months, we have shared our concerns with the Turkish government and the private sector and told them about the significant risks of doing business with institutions and organizations. “We have sanctioned in connection with the war against Russia.”

While it was stated that the US Treasury Department would impose sanctions on Margiana İnşaat Dış Ticaret and Demirci Bilişim Ticaret Sanayi, it was also stated that sanctions would be imposed on the company called Denkar Ship Construction. It was stated that sanctions will be imposed on CTL Limited together with ID Ship Agency and its owner İlker Doğruyol.
