Record in England: 7.68 million people waiting

According to the statement from the British National Health System (NHS), the number of people waiting for treatment in hospitals increased to 7.68 million at the end of July.

It is stated that 389,952 of these people have been waiting for more than a year.

This figure was recorded as the highest figure since August 2007, when records began to be kept.

Waiting lists increased by more than 100,000 in one month.

The government will provide an extra £200m of funding to the NHS this winter.

In his statement last month, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the government was unable to achieve its goal of reducing waiting lists and claimed that progress made had been disrupted due to strikes by healthcare workers. Sunak also blamed the Covid-19 epidemic for the rise in the number of people waiting for treatment in hospitals. (AA)
