England talks about deaths from plastic surgery… ‘Those who go to Turkey must be warned’
The death of Melissa Kerr, 31, who lives in Norfolk, England, during the plastic surgery she underwent in Turkey, generated controversy in the country.
Kerr died in 2019 during £3,200 hip augmentation surgery at a private hospital in Istanbul.
Kerr’s doctor also said the young woman was unaware of the risks of hip surgery.
Kerr died on the operating table as a result of a blood clot while fat was being injected into his hip area.
In the report prepared by the British authorities on the tragic death of a young specialist in a mental health center, it was stated that doctors in Turkey were negligent.
According to the BBC, coroner Jaqueline Lake stated in the report she prepared for the Ministry of Health that Kerr did not receive sufficient information about the risks of the operation in Turkey. The report noted that the plastic surgery known as “Brazilian hip” is the highest risk plastic surgery and called for precautions to be taken to avoid new deaths.
‘THOSE WHO WANT TO GO TO TURKEY SHOULD THINK CAREFULLY’
Lake pointed out that Britons who travel abroad for cosmetic surgeries are at risk and that many of them are unaware of the mortality rates in these surgeries.
It was stated that the opinion of the Turkish hospital was also sought on this issue. Plastic surgeon Simon Withey, who expressed his opinion in the report, stressed that these types of surgeries are in the “risk” group in England and said: “If the risks had been explained to Kerr, he probably would not have undergone to this surgery.”
Kerr’s family also said in their written statement: “We hope that those who want to go to Turkey for cosmetic tourism will think more carefully.”
