The publication of Assad’s most trusted name caused a stir: he had official contact in Paris.
The posts made on social media by Omar al-Aroub, known as one of the most trusted names of Syrian President Bashar Assad and the middle name of the Baath Brigades, became the agenda of the international public.
It emerged that al-Aroub, the second Baath Brigade man accused of war crimes and who also has photos with Assad, traveled to Paris, the French capital, in recent weeks. It was stated in French media reports that al-Aroub traveled to Paris between August 24 and 29 as president of the Syrian Paralympic Committee.
THE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE DID NOT DECLARE
While it has been officially confirmed that Syria has a team that will participate in next year’s event, French media outlet TF1 confirmed al-Aroub’s attendance at this meeting. Some media outlets close to the Syrian opposition broadcasting in Europe also shared photographs of al-Aroub in camouflage, as well as photographs taken with Assad.
While accusations that soldiers under Al-Aroub’s leadership committed torture and massacres in Syria appeared in local media, the Olympic Committee in Paris did not make a statement on the issue.
