United States: We do not recognize the elections in Karabakh
US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated in his statement that Washington will continue to support Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve their problems through dialogue.
Miller reiterated his call for the opening of the Lachin corridor and Aghdam highway.
Miller said: “As we said before, we do not recognize the Karabakh region as an independent, sovereign state. “For this reason we do not recognize the results of the so-called presidential elections,” he said.
Illegal Armenian forces in Karabakh held a “presidential election” on September 9 in lands under their control.
The Azerbaijani administration condemned the so-called elections in Karabakh, calling them “an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.”
Georgia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine also declared that they did not recognize the elections in question. The European Union also announced that it “does not recognize the legal framework in which the elections were held.” (AA)
