World leaders meet at G20 summit

The 18th G20 Leaders Summit, organized this year in India with the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, began with the official welcome ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the leaders attending the summit one by one and took photos with them.

President Erdoğan also participated in the first session of the day, which was held with the theme “One World.”

Leaders of G20 countries, which account for 85 percent of global economic output and 75 percent of global trade and cover two-thirds of the world’s population, will discuss comprehensive global economic reforms at this year’s three-session meeting. .

Erdogan was received by Indian Prime Minister Modi.

RUSSIA AND CHINESE LEADERS DID NOT PARTICIPATE

On the occasion of the summit, which also provides the opportunity for the leaders of the countries to hold individual negotiations, the leaders of the participating countries are expected to discuss regional and global issues, especially the war between Ukraine and Russia.
President Erdoğan is also expected to meet with the leaders and maintain contacts with some participating heads of state and government on the sidelines of the summit.

In addition to President Erdoğan, US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol, Saudi Crown Prince Saudi Mohammed bin Salman, the South Korean President Erdogan, African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Vecid, Argentine President Andrés Alberto Fernández, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the South will attend. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the summit; China will be represented by Prime Minister Li Jiang and Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

INTENSIVE SECURITY MEASURES

Due to the G20, air and ground security measures have been increased to the highest level in New Delhi.

More than 50,000 police officers were reported to be on duty for the summit and India’s National Security Guard supported the police to ensure security. Many avenues, streets and workplaces in the area where the summit will be held remained closed until September 11.

Additionally, travel restrictions will apply in some regions until the end of the summit. (AA)
