Is the name of India changing? UN statement

The United Nations (UN) is preparing to consider India’s request to change the country’s name to “Bharat”.

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq gave an assessment of the discussions that arose over India’s use of the country’s name as “Bharat” instead of “India” in the invitation to the UN Summit dinner. G20.

“WE ASSESS IF THE REQUEST ARRIVES”

Haq said that if there is an official request from the New Delhi administration, it will be considered.

THE EXAMPLE OF Türkiye IS GIVEN

Haq claimed that the issue regarding Turkey’s name was based on the official request from the Turkish government, saying, “When such requests come in, we evaluate them.” He used the phrase.

THE “BHARAT” STATEMENT CAUSED DISCUSSION

In the invitation to dinner at the G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi, the capital of India, on September 9-10, President Droupadi Murmu was written as “The President of Bharat” instead of “The President of India”, given the reaction of the opposition it had caused.

Indonesia was seen to use the phrase “The Prime Minister of Bharat” instead of “The Prime Minister of India” in the invitation sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.

The name of the country is mentioned in the constitution as “India” and “Bharat”. Another expression that is used when talking about the country is “Hindustan”, which means “the land of the Hindus” in Urdu. The most widely used name for India around the world is “India”.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintains that “India” is a legacy of its colonial past. (AA)
