The pension reform that left millions on the street comes into force

Millions were thrown into the streets! The pension reform comes into effect

In the summer, a large number of decrees necessary for the application of the reform that was confusing in France were published in the Official Gazette.

The pension reform went into effect, sparking months of demonstrations across the country, attended by millions of people.

Starting today, the retirement age will increase by 3 months each year until 2030, gradually increasing from 62 to 64. The minimum pension was 1,200 euros per month.

In order to receive the full pension, it will be necessary to have paid a premium for 43 years in 2027.

Those who started working before the age of 21 or disabled citizens will be able to retire earlier.

PENSION REFORM

Mass demonstrations broke out in France on March 16, following the government’s decision to pass the bill, which includes raising the retirement age from 62 to 64, without a vote.

Violence took place in many parts of the country as police dealt harshly with protesters.

More than 1,000 people were detained in protests against the reforms across the country.

The Constitutional Council, to which the opposition and the government turned to to determine if the reform was in accordance with the Constitution, approved the article of the bill that increased the retirement age to 64 years and totally or partially rejected all six articles.

The aforementioned bill was signed by French President Emmanuel Macron and published in the Official Gazette on April 15. (AA)
