The “comedian” who insulted Erdoğan is in trouble: they demand record compensation
Jan Böhmermann, the comedian who in 2016 wrote a poem insulting President Erdogan in Germany and who then tightened the ropes of the Ankara-Berlin line, is back on the agenda… This time, the claim for compensation of 100,000 euros filed against the ZDF because Böhmermann’s words created an explosive effect on the country’s agenda.
Böhmermann’s words, which came to light with his polemics, sparked a lawsuit.
Böhmermann, who participated in a ZDF program in October 2022, claimed that Arne Schönbohm, head of the Federal Office for Information Security, had close ties to the Russian intelligence service. Following Böhmermann’s words, Schönbohm was dismissed by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser. Struggling with this decision, Schönbohm was also named president of the Academy of Public Administration.
Schönbohm’s lawyer, Markus Hennig, announced in statements to the German news agency dpa last week the start of proceedings against the ZDF. It was also claimed that, in addition to the €100,000 compensation, it was requested that it be revealed that Schönbohm had no ties to Russia or any other countries.
The ZDF is said to have decided to extend the judicial process.
