ECOWAS recommendation to Niger, where the coup took place

According to the Nigerian Presidency statement, the President of Nigeria and also the President of ECOWAS, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, proposed a nine-month transitional government period for the military administration in Niger.

Recalling that Nigeria returned to civilian rule after a nine-month transition period initiated by the military head of state in 1999, Tinubu said: “If Niger’s military authorities are sincere, I see no reason why this should not should be repeated in the country”. He used the phrase.

Underlining that the action of the soldiers in Niger is unacceptable, Tinubu noted that the sooner the military adopts positive regulations, the faster ECOWAS will act to lift the sanctions imposed on the country.

Abdurrahmane Tchiani, leader of the transitional government called the National Council for the Protection of the Fatherland (CNSP) in Niger, in his address to the nation on August 19, announced that the transition to civilian rule would be completed within a maximum period of 3 years.
