UN letter to Russia: We do not want an initiative that drags from crisis to crisis

UN Secretary General Guterres spoke to reporters at the UN building in New York. Guterres noted that the Black Sea Grains Initiative made very important contributions to food markets and food security, noting that the renewal of the initiative is especially important for developing countries.

Noting that they also considered Russia’s complaints and demands regarding the initiative, Guterres said: “I have sent a letter to Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and put forward concrete proposals for the renewal of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.” he said.

“THE NEW AGREEMENT MUST BE STABLE”

“The new agreement must be stable. We do not want an initiative that is dragged from crisis to crisis and constantly suspended. We support an initiative that works and is useful”. Guterres stressed that the proposals are aimed at ensuring that Russian food and fertilizer reach global markets more effectively and at affordable prices.

Guterres stressed that a positive result can be achieved by making great efforts, and that this is important to ensure food security in communities. (AA)
