The NATO salute of August 30 disturbed Athens again

NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) congratulated Turkey yesterday on the occasion of August 30, Victory Day and Turkish Armed Forces Day. LANDCOM, which shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, celebrated August 30 as Victory Day with a similar message last year, but removed the congratulatory message on social media after Greece’s objection and re-shared it. On September 1.

LANDCOM included the phrase “Happy Victory Day” in Turkish this year.
But diplomatic sources who spoke to the Greek media revealed that the Athenian administration had taken some steps. It was announced that the Permanent Representative of Greece to NATO took action and sent a written warning to the NATO Secretary General. The written text states that it is unacceptable for NATO to celebrate Turkey’s Victory Day. The text commented: “It is unacceptable to celebrate the victory of the Turkish armed forces against a NATO ally.”
