Hurricane Idalia reaches Florida

According to information shared by the United States National Hurricane Center, the speed of the hurricane, which was moving inland from Keaton Beach in Florida, reached approximately 300 kilometers per hour.

Idalia, which showed its effects in the state with category 3 severity since hours of the morning, caused widespread power outages in the region, flooding the streets, closing airports and canceling flights.

It was shared that as the wavelength approached 3 meters due to the continuous winds, the water level covering the streets in coastal areas such as Tampa and Fort Myers rose rapidly.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned in a statement that Idalia “could cause destruction far beyond what was estimated” and its sphere of influence could extend beyond the areas shown on the maps.

Cathie Perkins, Pinellas County Emergency Management Manager, also warned citizens that “high tides will occur in the county.”

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, strong and sustained winds from Hurricane Idalia are moving through the state of Georgia. (AA)
