Algeria launches plan for Niger
At a press conference in the capital, Algeria, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Attaf, stated that the Algerian President, Abdulmecid Tebboune, decided to launch an initiative that prioritizes political dialogue and rejects military intervention to resolve the crisis in Niger.
Noting that this initiative is the summary of consultations and contacts since the first day of the military coup in Niger, Attaf stated that his country’s ambassador in Niamey, Mehdi Behadda, met three times with General Abdurrahmane Tchiani, who led The hit. and they spoke of the need to transform into a constitutional and democratic system.
Noting that the Algerian initiative is based on the restoration of constitutional order with the participation of all parties for six months without exclusion, Attaf noted that this process is expected to be carried out under the supervision of a civil authority with a conciliatory personality.
6 STAGE INITIATIVE
Attaf did not reveal all the details, stating that the six-phase initiative will be the consultation center at three levels in a few days, the first among various parties within Niger, the second at the level of neighboring countries and the Economic Community of Member States. of West Africa (ECOWAS), and the third at the level of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), affirmed that it will be at the level of countries that support the peaceful path to resolve the crisis.
Stating that this Algerian initiative is accepted both regionally and globally, Attaf stressed that the initiative also recommends holding an international conference on development in the Sahel countries and mobilizing funding for development programs that support stability in these countries.
The Algerian Foreign Minister visited ECOWAS members Nigeria, Benin and Ghana between 23 and 26 August to discuss the crisis in Niger.
THE CRISIS IN NIGER
In Niger, President Mohammed Bazum was detained by elements of the Presidential Guard Regiment on July 26, and that night the military announced that it had seized power.
General Abdurrahmane Tchiani, commander of the Presidential Guard Regiment, became head of the transitional government called the National Council for the Protection of the Fatherland (CNSP) on July 28.
