African Union suspends Niger’s membership

In a written statement by the AfB Peace and Security Council, it was shared that the country’s participation in all African Union activities was suspended after the military intervention in Niger on July 26.

He called for the release of President Mohammed Bazum and the return of the army to the barracks. On the other hand, calling on all member states and the international community, it was pointed out that any action that legitimizes the military government in Niger must be avoided; The involvement of any actor or country outside of Africa was vehemently denied.

President Bazum was detained by elements of the Presidential Guard Regiment on July 26 and that night the soldier announced that he had taken over the administration.

General Abdurrahmane Tchiani, commander of the Presidential Guard Regiment, took office on July 28 as head of the transitional government called CNSP. The CNSP appointed Lamine Zeine as prime minister on August 7 and announced the 21-member cabinet on August 10, made up of soldiers and civilians. (AA)
