Tension over military intervention in Africa: Algeria’s rejection of France

Algeria has reportedly rejected France’s request to open its airspace for military intervention in Niger.

According to the state radio report, Algeria did not respond to France’s request to use its airspace for a military intervention in Niger. In the news, it was emphasized that Algeria has always been against the use of force, and it was noted that its position on the military coup in Niger was clear and unequivocal.

In the news, which said that France, faced with Algeria’s rejection, turned to Morocco, it was stated that the Moroccan authorities decided to open French airspace for military intervention with French fighter jets.

Algeria had reacted to a possible military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Niger. During the meeting of the chiefs of staff of the ECOWAS countries in Accra, the capital of Ghana, on Friday, it was announced that the date of the military intervention in Niger was clear.

ECOWAS stated that the soldiers were ready to intervene as soon as the order came, but did not share information on when this possible operation would begin. (AA)
