Fire campaign in the Canary Islands
In Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands in the southwest of Spain, 5 villages were evacuated due to the forest fire that threatened the settlements.
As reported by The Independent newspaper, work continues to extinguish the fire on the island of Tenerife and evacuate people at risk.
The president of the Autonomous Administration of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said at a press conference: “The fire is out of control. The outlook doesn’t look very positive.” he used his statements. Clavijo said that 1,800 hectares of land were left in ashes in the fire, and that more than 200 troops and 13 planes and helicopters participated in the extinction work.
It was reported that the towns of Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña, Ajafona and Las Lagunetas, where the fire was threatening, were evacuated as a precaution, as well as the roads leading to the mountains in the north of the island were temporarily closed. (AA)
