Mine alert in the Black Sea… Romania took action

While the war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for almost a year and a half, the danger posed by mines placed in the Black Sea to countries in the region, including Turkey, is growing.

Finding 28 unexploded artillery shells on the beach late last month in Şile was on the agenda. Previously, mines detected off the Bosphorus and Igneada coasts caused controversy, with Russian officials claiming that chains of 420 mines laid in the sea by Ukraine have broken and scattered in the Black Sea.

Last month, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that a Ukrainian mine was destroyed in the Black Sea, 180 kilometers northeast of the Bosphorus.

The teams destroyed the unexploded ordnance found off the coast of Şile.

FOR FEAR OF EXPLOSION IN ROMANIAN PORT

Finally, the explosion of a mine in a Romanian port once again drew attention to the danger in the Black Sea. The Romanian navy has announced that it has deployed a ship and a helicopter to search for lost mines on the Black Sea coast after the explosion slightly damaged a pier on the Costinesti coast.
New mine alerts have sparked panic in the country as Romania announced that divers are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a land mine.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the two sides have blamed each other for the mines. Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia, as well as Bulgaria, Romania, and Georgia, lie on the Black Sea coast, which is vitally important for shipping grain, oil, and petroleum products.
