5,500 fires in Canada
It has been reported that approximately 13.4 million hectares of land have been burned in some 5,500 fires in the wildfires that continue in Canada and have been recorded as the “biggest fire in the country’s history”.
Michael Norton, General Manager of Natural Resources Canada’s Northern Forestry Centre, noted that the fire season continues.
Norton warned that “there will be a ‘significant increase’ in fires in the coming weeks.”
In the fires, which are recorded as the “biggest fire in the country’s history”, approximately 5,500 fires have so far broken out.
In these fires, approximately 13.4 million hectares of forest area were destroyed.
The authorities specified that more than 167,000 people in the country had to leave their homes because of the fires.
Northeastern US states were affected by smoke from wildfires in Canada.
The previous largest wildfires in Canada occurred during the April–September 1989 wildfire season, with around 7.6 million hectares of forest burned. (AA)
