US statement on the meeting between Putin and Erdogan

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller answered questions from members of the press at the daily news conference.

Referring to Erdogan’s statement on the grain deal with Putin, Miller said he believes “success” will come from the early meeting.

On the question, Miller said: “As you know, President Erdogan said on Friday that he would like to have further talks to encourage President Putin to rejoin the Black Sea Grain Initiative.” saying.

“WE WILL BE HOPE”

Stating that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken would “appreciate the support of all allies and partners in the region” regarding the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Miller said, “We are hopeful that some success will emerge from these discussions.” saying.

The spokesman noted that it will be difficult to catch up with the old volumes of grain shipments from Ukraine by means other than the shipping line.

Miller also stated that missile and drone attacks launched last week after Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea grain initiative killed and injured many civilians, and that the Russians also attacked grain ships on the Danube River.

LAW IN ISRAEL

Miller said it was “unfortunate” that the Israeli Assembly passed the controversial bill that would lift Supreme Court control over the government.

Miller stressed that it was “unfortunate that the controversial House resolution passed with the smallest possible majority.”

The spokesman recalled US President Joe Biden’s remarks about Israel’s narrow passage of the control law in the Knesset today, saying that “big changes in democracy can be permanent if they are made within the framework of the broadest possible consensus.”
