688 thousand TL left the bag in the recycling bin

Some 23,000 euros (688,000 TL) came from a women’s bag brought to a second-hand store in Belgium.

According to Belgian media reports, the bag was taken to a second-hand shop in the town of Maasland, in the Limburg region of eastern Belgium.
It was stated that the bag came from the products that were thrown into the recycling bins with the textile products, from there they were separated and taken to the thrift store for sale.

The assistant noted the money by examining whether the used items were eligible for resale. Officer Michiel Watzeel said: “9 out of 10 bags that come here are empty. But this bag was full of bills ranging from 50 euros to 500 euros. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. At first I thought it might be counterfeit money. I informed my manager. As a result, we determined that the total amount was 22 thousand 650 euros. “I’ve never seen such a large amount of cash before in my life,” he said.

It has not yet been determined who the money belongs to. The Maasland police reported that no one asked them for money. In the statement issued by the police, it reads: “The money and the bag are currently under protection on the instructions of the prosecutor.”

Johan Vanherck, manager of the used store, congratulated his employees on their honesty. “Our employees expect the owner of the money to thank them by offering them ice cream,” Vanherck said.
