Red alert for temperature in Algeria
In a written statement made by the Algerian Meteorological Institute, it was indicated that high heat waves continued across the country with temperatures exceeding 48 degrees in some cities.
In the statement, in which attention was drawn to the increase in the alarm level from orange to red, it was stressed that this situation was related to “inclement weather characterized by very high temperatures” compared to the usual ones in July of each year.
According to the classifications of the Algerian Meteorological Agency, the orange color indicates that a “very dangerous” situation has occurred or is expected, while the red color indicates that an exceptionally serious “very dangerous” situation has occurred or is expected.
ORANGE ALARM IS GIVEN
The orange alert was issued by said institution after it was announced on Saturday that temperatures would reach 48 degrees in the shade throughout the country, including coastal areas.
The Algerian Civil Defense Presidency also announced yesterday that forest fires have broken out in 7 cities in the north of the country due to the weather temperatures, and that aerial and ground extinction work continues.
The Algerian authorities had announced that the state of maximum alert had been activated due to the forecast that the heat wave, which has been going on for weeks, could cause forest fires.
For about a month, Algeria has been witnessing record temperatures of 48 degrees in the capital and 50 degrees in other regions. (AA)
