Iraq’s signal to “cut ties with Sweden” after the Quran crisis

According to a written statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Press Office, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with security officials to discuss the burning of the Swedish Embassy in his country. While the attack in question was condemned, it was decided that there was a security vulnerability in the incident.

The Iraqi government also conveyed to Swedish channels that if the actions against the Koran continued, it would cut off relations with Sweden.

In Baghdad, supporters of the Sadr Movement raided the Swedish Embassy late at night and set parts of the building on fire.

In Stockholm, the Swedish capital, an Iraqi man named Salwan Momika burned the Koran under police protection in front of the Stockholm Mosque on the first day of Eid al-Adha, June 28. (AA)
