The country is confused again! harsh response to protesters

Harsh response to anti-government protests by Israeli police

Thousands of protesters in Israel gathered at train stations with Israeli flags after work. Israeli police blocked the entrances to some stations, making flights difficult. Throughout Israel, protesters blocked roads and long lines of vehicles on many highways throughout the day.

Tens of thousands of Israelis participated in the demonstrations in dozens of points across the country, especially in cities like Tel Aviv, West Jerusalem and Haifa.

INTERVENTION TO THE TEL AVIV SHOWS

Protesters gathered in front of the Government Complex on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, which has become a symbol of anti-judicial regulation protests at night.

A group of about a thousand protesters blocked Tel Aviv’s main artery, the Ayalon Highway, and set it on fire. The Israeli police drove off the protesters using TOMA, mounted units and force.

According to Israeli media reports, when the far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived in the region, protesters chanted “terrorists.” The road was opened to traffic after approximately 2.5 hours.

The Israeli police intervened with TOMA and mounted units against the protesters on Kaplan street at night. Israeli medical teams intervened against the demonstrators who were injured in the intervention of the police.

Up to 60 protesters were reportedly detained in protests across the country.

On the other hand, hundreds of protesters marched from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The organizers of the march stated that their goal was to save the country from collapse and stated that it would take about 4 days to reach Jerusalem.

DEFERRED JURISDICTION

The “judicial reform” announced by Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin on January 5 includes changes such as limiting the powers of the Supreme Court and the power to have a say in judicial appointments.

Netanyahu announced that he had postponed judicial regulation, sparking the rise of mass protests and strikes across the country, on March 27, but announced that he would put judicial regulation back on the agenda after Parliament passed the 2023 budget. 2024 in the end of May.

After negotiations on judicial regulation between Netanyahu’s coalition and the opposition stalled, the government recently pushed the button again in the area of judicial regulation.

The government had approved the bill, dubbed “plausibility,” which would lift Supreme Court control over the government, in the first vote in Parliament on July 10. For the law to take effect, it must pass all three votes in the House.

According to Israeli media reports, the “plausibility” bill, which aims to remove the authority of the Supreme Court to overturn government decisions by claiming they are “irrational” for reasons such as “does not serve the public interest It creates a conflict. of Interest”, is scheduled to go before Parliament for the second vote this week. The protest movement against the Netanyahu government announced that there will be civil disobedience actions across the country on Tuesday, July 18 against this government step.

The protest movement, which opposes judicial regulation and other right-wing policies of the Netanyahu government in Israel, has continued its demonstrations across the country for the past 6 months.

Hundreds of Israeli army reservists, including fighter pilots, submarine officers and elite commando units, also announced that they would not continue their duties if the Netanyahu government continued its controversial court ruling. (AA)
