Images of the Treasury minister’s handshake sparked controversy: did he hallucinate the mushroom he ate?
The images of the US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, who made official contacts in China, became the agenda…
Yellen, 76, who held a series of meetings in China, was teased when she met her Chinese counterpart on camera and leaned forward several times after shaking his hand. Some Republican politicians in the United States said Yellen broke diplomatic protocol.
While the reason why Yellen leaned forward many times is still unclear, the American and Chinese media came from a remarkable claim.
Yellen allegedly consumed hallucinogenic mushrooms at a restaurant in Beijing prior to this meeting. It has been suggested that Yellen’s behavior and movements changed after eating these mushrooms. Some sources claimed that Yellen ate four servings of mushrooms before the interview.
The moments when Yelen ate mushrooms with her delegation were shared on social media.
The chef at the restaurant where Yellen dined in Beijing denied the allegations. The chef, who said they cleaned the mushrooms thoroughly and cooked them thoroughly, said they did not serve a harmful dish to Yellen.
Speaking to CNN, a major US media outlet, Professor Peter Mortimer of the Kunming Botanical Institute said: “A friend of mine had accidentally eaten mushrooms before and hallucinated for 3 days.”
