While many countries in Europe are scorching from the heat wave effect, extreme heat is expected to be effective in many countries on the continent for the next few weeks.
Spain, Italy and Greece are among the countries affected by the heat wave in Europe. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Croatia, Bulgaria, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the Netherlands, temperatures are above seasonal normals.
ORANGE ALERT IN SPAIN
In Spain, where the third heat wave of the summer season will be felt in most of the country since the beginning of this week, the heat wave will affect more than 30 provinces. Civil Protection teams issued a red alert in Córdoba and Jaén in the Andalusia region of southern Spain, where the air temperature is expected to rise to 44 degrees, while the second degree orange alert in Granada, Seville, Mallorca , Madrid, Toledo, Albacete, Cuenca, Badajoz and Ciuded Real.
On the other hand, the high temperatures and drought caused by climate change negatively affect the agricultural sector in Spain. Especially in the regions of Andalusia and Catalonia, water cuts are made to combat the drought. The average rate of usable water in dams and ponds in the country is below 38 percent.
NEW HEAT WAVE IN ITALY
Extreme heat, which started to show its effect in Italy last week, will continue to be effective this week, especially in the central and southern regions.
It is claimed that the country will go through a third heat wave from today and the temperatures will reach their peak. According to data shared by the Italian Air Force Meteorology Unit, the air temperature in the capital Rome is expected to reach 40 degrees today and 42-43 degrees tomorrow.
According to estimates announced by the European Space Agency (ESA) on July 13, the temperature on the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia could reach 47-48 degrees this week.
In Greece, after Thursday, the thermometers will return to 43 degrees. In Athens, the capital of Greece, temperatures of 43 degrees negatively affect life. With the decision of the Ministry of Labor, remote working was recommended as a precautionary measure to protect employees in the public and private sectors.
THE BALKANS ARE ALSO ROASTED
The streets were observed to be empty during the day due to high temperatures in the Western Balkan countries. It was said that today will be the “hottest day” in Serbia and the air temperature will rise to 40 degrees.
A “yellow alert” was also declared in 24 of Bulgaria’s 29 regions.
As continental Europe is battling a heatwave, the British Met Office has announced that hot summer weather is not expected in the country until mid-August. (AA)
