Like the movie: Missing man and his dog found at sea months later
Australian sailor Tim Shaddock and his dog Bella were found by a tuna boat off the coast of Mexico exactly two months after they went missing in the middle of the Pacific.
The Sydney man set out from La Paz, Mexico, for French Polynesia in April, but a storm destroyed his boat’s electronics.
Shaddock, left alone with his dog in the middle of the sea, said he had to eat raw fish and drink rainwater to survive.
After his miraculous salvation, the unfortunate man was found to be quite weak, and his gray beard was overgrown.
“I need to rest and eat well because I have been alone at sea for too long,” said the sailor, who also avoided sunburn by hiding under a canopy on his ship. The man being treated stated that he was very well cared for.
A doctor on board the trawler said that after this ordeal, Shaddock was not seriously ill and was conscious.
Tom Hanks played a man stranded on the island in the movie “Cast Away”.
Shaddock’s dire condition has been compared to famed actor Tom Hank’s movie “Cast Away.” It came as a surprise that Hanks looked too much like the thin, bearded Australian sailor in the film.
