The fate of the bear, whose death order was given, is determined
The decision was announced on the bear named “Jj4”, which killed a runner in the Italian Alps.
Two weeks later, 17-year-old bear “Jj4” was captured two weeks later after attacking Andrea Papi while he was training near the Italian Alps town of Caldes on April 5, killing him. The president of the Autonomous Administration of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, ordered “Jj4” to be shot on the spot, but the court stopped this order over the objection of animal rights associations.
The family of Andrea Papi, who died in the bear attack, also announced that they did not want “Jj4” killed.
The fate of the brown bear, which injured 2 people walking on the mountain in 2020, has been determined. The Italian Council of State decided to stop the decision to euthanize the bear. The judges affirmed that brown bears are protected by international conventions and “require that culling be the last resort.”
It was announced that the case would be sent back to the local court for a final decision.
