Disaster followed in South Korea: 21 dead
According to the first determinations, 21 people lost their lives due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains that affected Seoul, the capital of South Korea, and its surroundings.
According to the Yonhap news, 21 people lost their lives as a result of floods and mudslides due to heavy rains in South Korea. Authorities reported that 10 people could not be heard and 9 people were injured.
As a result of the floods and landslides, 16 people died in the city of North Gyeongsang, 3 people died in the cities of Yeongju and Cheongyang, and one person each in the cities of Sejong and Cheongju. Firefighters announced that a road collapsed as a result of the river flood in the city of Cheongju, while 19 vehicles on the road were submerged under floodwaters.
The authorities indicated that thousands of people were evacuated from dangerous areas and more than 1,500 citizens were placed in shelters. It is feared that the number of dead, wounded and missing will increase.
The Ministry of the Interior and Security yesterday raised the alarm level to the maximum, given the warning from meteorological experts that rainfall would increase. (AA)
