Another step by Israel to escalate tensions

Another step by Israel to escalate tensions

In a statement made on the Israeli Army Radio social media account, it was reported that a group of protesters approached the Israel-Lebanon border and threw stones at Israeli soldiers.

The statement said that Israeli forces responded by opening fire and that journalists were among the protesters.

No statement has yet been made by the Lebanese or Israeli authorities on the matter.

Israel’s complete occupation of the village of Gajar on the Lebanese border has heightened tensions in the region in recent days.

THE TOWN OF GACAR FULLY OCCUPIED BY ISRAEL

The entire town of Gajar, located on the slopes of the Golan Heights, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967, remained under Israel’s de facto occupation until November 17, 2010.

Israel then withdrew from the northern part of the village and retained only the southern part; In the northern part, the United Nations Interim Peacekeeping Force (UNIFIL) was deployed.

In a July 4 statement, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry warned that Israel wanted to expand the occupation zone, in clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1701, which prohibited entry to the north of the village of Gajar.

Hezbollah, for its part, reported on July 7 that Israel had occupied the entire town of Gajar, on the border with Lebanon, and had built a wall around it.

In his July 10 statement, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Buhabib reiterated that Israel should withdraw from the village; On July 11, Lebanon complained to the United Nations about Israel’s full occupation of the village.
