Sweden: We will dedicate ourselves to preventing the activities of the terrorist organization PKK
Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson assessed the reconciliation between Turkey, Sweden and NATO at the NATO Summit in Lithuania and Turkey’s decision to forward Sweden’s NATO accession protocol to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).
Jonson said: “We will fight together with Türkiye against international terrorism. We will dedicate ourselves to preventing the activities of the terrorist organization PKK in Sweden. This is important both for our security and for the security of Turkey.” he made statements.
The journalist asked: “As a result of the reconciliation reached with Turkey at the Vilnius meeting, does Sweden view the YPG/PYD and FETO as terrorist organizations?” Jonson replied: “I cannot give a clear answer to that, because I was not present at the meeting, there was the Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer.” he gave the answer.
Jonson noted that the issue of which terrorist groups to fight was also included in the tripartite memorandum signed by Turkey, Sweden and Finland.
“Türkiye FULL SUPPORT TO FINLAND AND SWEDEN”
In the memorandum signed at the NATO Summit held in Madrid on June 28, 2022, “Finland and Sweden, as future NATO allies, fully support Turkey against all threats to its national security. In this framework, Finland and Sweden will not support the PYD/YPG and the organization defined as FETO in Turkey. Turkey also provides full support to Finland and Sweden against all threats to their national security.” Statements are included.
The statement “Sweden reiterates that it will not support the YPG/PYD and the organization defined as FETO in Turkey” in the letter made after the tripartite meeting between Turkey, Sweden and NATO in Vilnius reveals Sweden’s commitment in this regard. (AA)
