Istanbul, the favorite of Europe: at the top of the list
Readers of travel and vacation magazine Travel and Leisure, first published in the US in 1971, completed the list of Europe’s 15 Favorite Cities in the annual Best of the World Award survey.
Approximately 165,000 readers voted for their favorite cities in terms of architecture, food culture, general culture, accommodation and shopping, and Istanbul was voted Europe’s Favorite City with a score of 90.23.
In a statement on Istanbul from Travel and Leisure, “Even as Turkey is going through a difficult year, T+L readers put Istanbul at the top of their list. “One reader said it was a beautiful city with a lot to offer, while another said it was a city for all budgets.”
Among the most admired places in Istanbul were the Grand Bazaar, the Bosphorus and Sultanahmet Square.
Other cities on the list included Florence and Rome from Italy, while Prague, Barcelona, Edinburgh, Bordeaux and Vienna were among the favorite cities on the list.
Istanbul entered the list of the world’s 25 favorite cities 2023, again voted for by readers, in eighth place.
