Impressive statement about Wagner leader who challenged Putin: “I had nothing to lose”

The fallout from the short-lived uprising against Vladimir Putin’s administration in Russia continues.

Yevgeni Prigojin, the leader of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, who fought on the front lines in the Ukrainian war, defied the Kremlin by capturing some military installations in Russia on June 23-24. Prigokhin, who made harsh statements against the Russian army, accepted the agreement made under the mediation of Belarus within 24 hours of the uprising and withdrew the fighters from it.

While the event was described as “the biggest challenge for Putin’s administration”, it also revealed the cracks and power struggle within Russia.

‘HAS BEEN TREATED FOR YEARS’

A claim about Prigojin, which was on the world’s agenda, became the agenda of the world press. According to Russian media reports, leader Wagner has been receiving treatment for stomach cancer for some time, and his illness may be behind the decision to rebel.

According to news from the Russian investigative reporting site Proekt, Prigojin, 62, who has been receiving intensive cancer treatment for years, has been improving recently, but the Wagner leader follows a very strict diet. Speaking to Britain’s The Times newspaper, a former Wagner warrior said Prigojin never drank alcohol, only drank lemonade, despite heavy drinking in front of him.

According to documents posted on the site, Prigojin, St. was being treated at a Putin-affiliated clinic in St. Petersburg. “What they did sounds exactly like something someone with nothing to lose would do,” a source said.

Prigojin also allegedly told his fighters “I’m crazy” during the uprising. The Wagner leader said in a statement after the uprising that his goal was not to overthrow Putin, but that he wanted justice.

The Kremlin also announced that Putin met with commanders Prigojin and Wagner a few days after the uprising.
