Reaction of the IYI Party to the reconciliation between Türkiye and Sweden
In his statement at Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, IYI party spokesman Kürşad Zorlu referred to the reconciliation between Turkey and Sweden for Sweden’s participation in NATO.
“THE LEGAL OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE IS LOST DUE TO THE WRONG ATTITUDE OF THE POLITICAL POWER”
Stating that Sweden has not made any significant progress since May 2022, when it submitted to NATO, and since the Madrid Summit, Zorlu said: “Although we consider the statement made yesterday as a step forward in terms of Turkey-NATO relations , the text of the declaration consists mainly of wishes, it is almost a step backwards text that does not carry a guarantee for it. However, it is not possible for NATO to accept new members unless Turkey gives its approval. “While we have justified reasons and reservations with determined, consistent and good diplomacy, unfortunately, once again, this legitimate opportunity will be lost due to the bad attitude of political power,” he said.
“WHAT DID SWEDEN RESPOND TO TURKEY’S REQUESTS?”
Asking questions of the government, Zorlu continued as follows:
* “What measures has Sweden taken so far regarding the extradition of terrorist criminals? What response did you give to Türkiye’s demands?
* Former Justice Minister Bozdag said that not a single decision has reached us regarding the extradition of FETO members, PKK members, members of other terrorist organizations that we wanted to be extradited to Turkey due to terrorist crimes. The fact that it extradites a person accused of committing any crime, other than terrorism, does not mean that Turkey’s request has been answered positively.
* How many people have formally requested a return and received a positive response so far? Has it been announced by the competent authorities the will to make a regulation in the legislation against these attacks on our national values in Sweden?
“HOW MUCH IS THE POWER OF SWEDEN IN THE EU?”
Drawing attention to the statement published yesterday, Zorlu reminded that Sweden will actively support Turkey’s membership process in the EU, including updating the Customs Union and visa liberalization, saying: “How will this happen and what is the Sweden’s power in the EU? The attitude of the countries of the European Union towards Syrian refugees is clear. Because we were unable to achieve this compromise even in the Readmission Agreement, and our country has become a haven for asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. Another aspect of the problem is that Turkey’s membership in the EU will be decided by consensus and unanimity of all member states. Faced with such a picture, this clarification text, which can only be reached with an expression of desire, is cause for reflection on behalf of our beloved nation. How does this desire of Sweden overlap with the concerns and demands of Turkey? she asked her.
“DIPPING BILATERAL RELATIONS IN SWEDEN SAUCE IS JOY WITH THE TURKISH NATION”
Zorlu spoke about the F-16 and F-35 as follows:
* “On the other hand, a positive decision on the F-16s, which is said to be made at a later date, is presented as a new success story in the US Congress. This is not an acceptable situation. It is understood that the AKP government is trying to fix the mistakes made in other fields and especially the foreign policy balance that Turkey lost, with new tools and new inconsistencies.
* His resulting stance on Sweden is one of pincer policy, as in the case of the Priest Branson, Deniz Yücel and Cemal Khashoggi disaster. However, we would like to underline that the issue of F16s is important for Türkiye. However, while the F-35 issue and the loss experienced here, the situation in northern Syria and other embargoes are in the middle, dunking bilateral relations in Swedish sauce as if they never happened and, frankly, it’s getting mocking the Turkish nation.”
