The Kremlin’s striking comment on Turkey’s membership of the EU
In the last two days, communications have continued to arrive from Moscow on the statements made and decisions made in the axis of NATO and the European Union.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assessed President Erdogan’s European Union membership statements that he has been putting on his agenda for two days. Peskov commented: “Turkey should not be under the illusion that it will one day join the European Union.”
“Turkey may be on the axis of the West, we know that in the past, when the Republic of Turkey was on the axis of the West, these periods were less intense,” Peskov said. Peskov also said: “But we also know that nobody in Europe wants Turkey, that is, the Europeans. Our Turkish partners should not wear their rose-colored glasses,” he said.
Peskov said that Russia understands that Turkey must fulfill its responsibilities towards Sweden as a NATO member, and that Moscow wants to continue to establish good relations with Ankara despite all disagreements.
