Heavy rains killed Japan: 5 people died

The Japan Meteorological Agency continues its warnings as local downpours have reached record levels in the country’s southwestern provinces since the weekend.

The number of people who lost their lives in the region, including Fukuoka and Saga states, due to the rains has risen to 5. The search for 3 people continues.

As a result of the JMA’s warnings, local municipalities demanded the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Prime Minister Kishida Fumio met with Minister of Disaster Management Yani Koiçi.

Continuing its warnings against landslides and flooding, the Agency announced that rainfall is expected to head to the Sea of ​​Japan (East Sea) region within the week.

The “suyu” rainy season, known as “plum rains” in the East Asian country of Japan, lasts from late May to mid-July. (AA)
