Speaking at a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Scholz said: “I am pleased that Finland has already become a member and I hope that soon we can make Sweden a NATO member. I receive a positive message from the statements of the President of Turkey that this is a decision that can be considered from his perspective in the near future.
Stating that Sweden would fit well into NATO, Scholz said: “Sweden is a democratic country, it has a very effective national defense and it has organized it in such a way that it fits perfectly into NATO. “Sweden meets all the requirements for NATO membership,” he said.
The German Prime Minister recalled that at the last European Union summit, the EU Commission was asked to submit a report to member states on the state of relations and how cooperation between the EU and Turkey.
For his part, Scholz stated that they have reached an agreement with Australia to establish supply chains for raw materials.
Anthony Albanese also stated that they will send an Awacs early warning plane and 100 soldiers to the Rammstein military base in Germany to support the protection of European airspace.
Regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine, Albanese said: “We see that a land war in Europe affects the whole world, affects our economy. That is why it is important that the democratic world unite and react to defend the rule-based order.
