Knife attack on kindergarten in China
A knife attack took place at a kindergarten at 07:40 local time in southeast China’s Guangdong province.
Police reported that 6 people, including three children, a teacher and two parents, lost their lives and one person was injured in the incident.
The attacker with the knife was captured and taken into custody. The attacker was recorded to be 25 years old and deliberately organized the attack.
While the area around the kindergarten was cordoned off by police, the attack caused a shock in China, where such incidents are rare. Many people flocked to social media and reacted to the recent spike in knife attacks in China.
In August of last year, three people were killed in a stabbing attack at a kindergarten. In 2021, 2 children died as a result of a knife attack in the city of Beiliu.
China has been increasing security in schools due to increased attacks since 2010. Emergency drills are also held in schools.
